The bright side of the COVID-19 pandemic is that it’s given many of us time to deepen our connections — including those we share with our pets!
A new study conducted by American Pet Products Association (APPA) reveals interesting insights into consumer attitudes and behaviors during the pandemic. Results (outlined below) show that pet ownership is holding steady during the pandemic and a majority of animal caretakers report their spending has not been influenced by the current economy. “We know just how much pets mean to us, our mental health and well-being,” says Steve King, CEO of APPA. “This initial study reaffirms that pet owners are appreciating their connection to their pets now more than ever, which is incredible to hear.”
- 72% of pet parents agree that spending time with their pet is reducing their stress and increase their sense of well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic
- 70% are spending more time with their pet while they practice social distancing from others
- 60% say the extra time spent with their pet makes them feel closer/more bonded with their pet.
