Course Description

Lauded by human health professionals for its many clinically-proven adaptogenic healing properties, ashwagandha is now starting to appear in a variety of animal health supplements and functional treats. How does this natural ally for human health, which has been used successfully for more than 3000 years, benefit companion animals?

This course looks at the multiple issues ashwagandha can address, and the effects this ayurvedic herb has for animal patients in practice. It starts by unpacking what ashwagandha is, how this adaptogenic herb works to safely address and improve animal health challenges, and how carefully controlled production, harvesting and management, as well as complete compliance, transparency, and sustainability can affect quality and efficacy. The course then moves on to take a closer look at these peer-reviewed, published studies, which utilize KSM-66 Ashwagandha root extract, as a jumping off point:

  1. Adaptogenic and immunomodulatory activity of Ashwagandha Root Extract: an experimental study in an equine model
  2. Efficacy and safety of standardized Ashwagandha Root Extract (Withania somnifera) on stress and anxiety in domestic dogs
  3. Adaptogenic Ashwagandha Root Extract modulates inflammatory markers in feline stress management
  4. Effects of Ashwagandha Root Extract on aging-related changes in healthy geriatric dogs

Each study will be covered in depth, looking at overview, parameters assessed, and conclusive results.

It ends with a look at ongoing research related to ashwagandha root extract for animal health, which other natural ingredients it works well with, and how it can be added to pet health regimens, routines, ingredient profiles, and treatment protocols.
