There’s no denying it – spring is the perfect time to travel with your dog. The grass is green, the flowers are blooming and it’s not too hot to enjoy a day out on the town. Not sure what to do or where to go? Your dog will be welcomed with open arms at these dog-friendly spring events!

1. OKC Whitewater Festival

Oklahoma City’s third annual Whitewater Festival will take place with a day of extreme racing and family fun, including white-water raft racing and a great local DJ! Located in OKC’s downtown Boathouse District at the dog-friendly adventure park RIVERSPORT, this event is not to be missed.

Enjoy world-class outdoor urban adventures within walking distance of great hotels, restaurants and entertainment – all affordably priced. RIVERSPORT OKC’s dog park, Barks & Brews, sits next to the Whitewater Center and the fast-casual restaurant, Big Water Grill. Pups are allowed inside the restaurant, all around the park, and on the kayaks and SUPs on the Oklahoma River. You may even find your next best friend at their dog adoption event.

2. The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival

The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square is very welcoming to four-legged friends. This culturally-inspired event features 30 lantern sculptures, performances and handcrafted keepsakes by Chinese folk artists, a Dragon Beer Garden, and much more.

3. Bastrop Music Festival 

Bastrop Music Festival will feature several outdoor venues that are dog-friendly. This new festival showcases the best of the state: extraordinary natural beauty, talented people, an independent spirit and an amazing culture. Enjoy unique bands with many styles of music represented, including blues, country, soul, folk, Latin and more! While you’re in town for the festival, you can stay at any one of their dog-friendly hotels and dine outdoors with your pup by your side.

4. Sandcastle Contest

The leash-free Cannon Beach will host its 55th annual Sandcastle Contest, the oldest competition of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Dozens of teams of professional sand sculpture artists, amateur groups and families will construct remarkable creations in the sand while their dogs play! The Masters division teams compete for cash prizes and construct large, elaborate creations – a sight to behold!

The entire weekend is full of activities including a Friday night parade, Saturday night beach bonfire with live music and Sunday morning 5K fun run and walk.

5. Brian Head Spring Carnival  

Home to some of the best powder on earth and breathtaking views, Brian Head is a great spring getaway. And the Brian Head Spring Carnival is the perfect festival for dogs! Boasting exciting events, live music, an amusing Cardboard Sled Race and wide open spaces for your dog to romp with other furry friends, this event has something for the whole family!

6. Willcox Wine Country Festival

Rated by Fodor’s Travel as one of the top 10 wine festivals in North America, this event is a weekend-long, dog-friendly celebration! What started with four wineries and roughly 250 attendees ten years ago has grown to encompass 18 wineries, over 70 art and craft vendors, five bands, multiple food venues, and over 6,000 attendees. The festival is located at the historic Railroad Park just steps from the Willcox Wine Trail and local vineyards. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome to attend and enjoy the festivities.

7. Easter Express

California Western Railroad’s Skunk Train, one of Northern California’s most beloved attractions, celebrates holidays with themed trains – and dogs are always welcome to share the fun. What pup wouldn’t enjoy having his or her head out the window as the train chugs along some of the most unspoiled scenery in America?

You and your dog can hop on the Easter Express, this year out of both the Willits and Fort Bragg depots. The ride features Easter Egg surprises, pink lemonade and a special Easter cupcake (dog treats not included), plus a visit from the Easter Bunny!
